 * Hazardous Materials - How to Work With Them and Avoid "H" Occupancies

This class will focus on classification of hazardous materials so that they can be compared to the allowable (exempt) amounts of the International Building/Fire Code as adopted by the State of Arkansas.  The class will identify what control areas are and how to use them to your advantage.  The class will also include proper design and sizing of secondary containment along with a review of common mistakes.

        o       Pre-requisite:  Basic understanding of the International Building Code and application of codes.  Knowledge that the International Fire Code exists and that it needs to be used more often.

o        Review of common HazMat definitions (flammable, oxidizer, pyrophoric, and many more)

o        How to use and find information on a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)

o        How to classify a chemical to its hazard(s)

o        How to use the exempt amount tables in the IBC/IFC

o        What is a control area and how can it help you

o        Did you know that by code, every building has at least one control area in it?  Did you account for it?

o        Problems with secondary containment

o        Learn from others mistakes

o        Why you do not want to become an “H” Occupancy

o        If you have to become an “H” Occupancy

This course is a must for architects, architectural interns, engineers, engineering technicians, fire marshal's, building plan reviewers, owners, and anyone who uses hazardous materials in the work place.  This course is not geared towards nor intended for preparation of qualification exams.

This class will be presented at our training facility in Greenbrier, Arkansas.  Located 45 minutes north of Little Rock, or just 10 minutes north of Conway on Hwy 65.  Our facility provides a comfortable learning environment with tables and chairs selected specifically for training. 

Lunch is not provided.  Snacks and drinks will be provided.  Session starts promptly at 8:00am and will run to approximately 5:00pm.

Please bring a copy of the International Building and/or Fire Code if available (2000, 2003, or 2006 edition).

 

Refund Policy

Refunds will be provided for written cancellations up to 11 business days prior to seminar date.  After this time, no refunds will be given.  You may substitute any attendee.  Although not anticipated, we reserve the right to cancel a class.  This may be due to insufficient registered attendees, or other conditions beyond our control.  If a class is canceled, a full refund for seminar fees will be given.  Every attempt will be maid to notify attendees two weeks prior to the seminar.

 

CSA provides code related seminars.  These are usually half to full day classes providing general overviews of critical areas.  Classes are generally geared towards electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, architects, electrical contractors, plan reviewers, inspectors, general contractors, and owners. 

Note: These classes are not intended for those who will be taking qualification assessments.  Qualification assessments require knowledge beyond the general scope of these seminars.
